“In the silence, in the silence, God speaks to me … “

Most of us have had a tune that keeps playing in our heads. It wasn’t until I read “Breathing Lessons” by Anne Tyler that I started paying attention when that happened. I read this book a long time ago, and what I remember was that a husband and wife are driving to a wedding and having a serious discussion, when the husband starts whistling. The wife recognized the tune as something that was apropos to the discussion, and also realized that her husband is unconscious of what he is whistling.

It made me realize that those tunes that run though our heads are like “instant messages” from the Universe.

A week ago Donna Michael‘s song “God Speaks to Me” kept running through my head over and over. First it was just the tune, then some of the words stated to filter in. As I heard the words, I thought “Yes, God speaks to me” and went about my business. The song wouldn’t leave.

On my altar, I have a deck of cards called “Self Care Cards” created by Cheryl Richardson for women. They have absolutely beautiful artwork. Part of my morning routine is to open myself to my Self by picking one of those cards. Two days in a row, I picked “Silence.” Each time I admired the picture and put it back in the stack.

Still the song would not leave me. I decided we should sing it at our Sunday Gathering and found it on the wonderful CD’s the Saskatoon CRS gifted to us.

As I read the words, which are basically what I wrote above, plus a chorus, a sentence jumped out at me: “God speaks to me in the silence of my heart.”

Later that day I was near the altar, and decided to pick another card. I breathed deeply, closed my eyes and chose one … yes – again it was “Silence.” Suddenly I understood that I hadn’t paid any attention to either the song in my head or the card, because a story I had been telling myself over and over was louder than my Instant Messages.

We all do it – we go over and over something in our minds until that is the only thing we hear. I had even Treated about a harmonious resolution to this “story” …. but kept telling it to myself. I never got quiet enough to hear what Infinite Intelligence answered. It was getting through though, with a song that wouldn’t leave my head and with a personal ritual. I turned the card over and read: “Listen to your Wise Self. Silence is good self care.”

Breathing deeply, I knew it was time to let go. I had to close my mental mouth, so to speak, and drop the “story.” So I did. As I breathed deeply again, I could hear a bird symphony from my back yard, and as the music poured though me, I felt such relief!

I am so grateful for the Universe’s way of working with me. I am so grateful that Infinite Intelligence will never give up on me, and use everything in the universe I have created around me to constantly give me instant message love notes!! I declare right now I am always connected – and so are YOU!

Allow yourself some silence by letting go of the stories you’ve been holding on to… God speaks to you in the silence of your heart.

Blessings, Rev. Angelica

There is only The One. It is infinitely intelligent and unconditionally loving. It is the Source and substance of all things, including me. My awareness of my connection in the Oneness is now greater than it has ever been before. I rejoice in knowing all that God is, I am.

Today I choose to “be still and know that I am God.” I release the stories I have kept in bondage in my mind, thanking them for serving me well, and letting them transform into something greater. I KNOW who I am.

I gratefully celebrate my life – God’s Life – with joy. I am so grateful for my connection in God. And so it is.
